The Reason for the Season

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6

The prophet Isaiah recorded these words over 700 years before the birth of Jesus Christ, the promised Messiah.  But we can trace the first messianic prophecy all the way back to the Garden of Eden.  After Adam & Eve’s fall from perfection, “14 The Lord God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this, cursed are you above all livestock and above all beasts of the field; on your belly you shall go, and dust you shall eat all the days of your life. 15 I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.”  Genesis 3:14-15

There in the Garden of Eden, God unveiled His plan of salvation for the entire world.  He would send His Son, Jesus, whose very name even implied what His mission on earth would be, “21 She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” 22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet [Isaiah 7:14]:  23 “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us).” Matthew 1:21-23

This is the reason why we celebrate the season of CHRISTmas.  Not because of “Black Friday,” presents, eggnog, turkey, ham, pumpkin pie, “chestnuts roasting on an open fire,” or any of the other traditions of the Season of CHRISTmas, but because of the birth of a baby in the manger at Bethlehem, on a cold, dark, and starry night, nearly 2025 years ago.

An event so momentous, that the angels in heaven were singing praises to God, “10 And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of a great joy that will be for all the people. 11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12 And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.” 13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, 14 “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!” Luke 2:10-14

God’s richest Blessings as you celebrate The Reason for the Season!
